Ingredients

  • For the Low-Calorie Filling:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • For the Dough:
  • 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup cold shortening
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup non-fat yogurt

Instructions

  • To make the filling: Put all the filling ingredients in a food processor and mix them well.
  • To make the dough: Mix the oats, flours, shortening, and butter until you get a coarse, crumbly mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the yogurt and egg together. Then, mix them with the flour mixture.
  • Divide the dough into two halves and roll them out into separate sheets to form the top and bottom of the pop tarts.
  • Add the filling to one side of the dough. Place the other dough sheet on top and press the edges together with your fingers to seal them.
  • Avoid adding extra sugar and fat. Instead of decorating with cream, you can sprinkle a little cinnamon on top of your finished low-calorie pastries.
